Open Answers was founded in 1988 by two brothers - Ian and Alex Bellia - to deliver Unix support services to several large retail organisations on behalf of vendor NCR. Over time this relationship expanded to include education services, consultancy and development work.

Over the past fifteen years, the Open Answers team has expanded to 20 Unix experts with experience across every aspect of technology, from operating system and database to application and network. The company has also gained wide experience in web development, reactive and proactive system monitoring and performance management.

Of course the technology environment has changed significantly over the past 15 years, with the rise of both Microsoft and, more recently, open source software, creating a far more complex infrastructure for technology development and deployment. The company has gained significant experience in Linux, BSD and the growing raft of open source software, including Apache and GNU packages, Caucho Resin and Borland Interbase, to create the breadth and depth of expertise demanded by highly complex, web-based applications.

Open Answers has expanded its customer base to include a large number of blue chip customers, many of whom have been clients for over a decade. From remote support and web hosting to in-house consultancy and team leadership, the company continues to play a major role in supporting organisations’ business critical Unix and open source applications.

Leading Unix vendors Sun Microsystems and IBM also recognised the value of excellent external Unix resources. Over the past decade the company has provided a raft of services to both organisations, including education, engineering and professional services.
